The whole beer business started as a simple way to have a good time—and make some money while doing it.

The location didn’t really matter, whether it be a house, a bar, or sometimes even the woods. All we needed were the kegs and some instruments, and of course people…wouldn’t be that much fun without the people. I should also state that this wasn’t any ordinary beer either. Our bass player Matty Buzanko apprenticed at a small brewery on the outskirts of Hamilton for three years with a man that put master in brew master. He soon became an expert at traditional ales and lagers, but expanded into his now popular micro-brewed niche beers. He made people swoon over his IPA, and hunger for his Scotch Ale. He won national awards for his Buzanko Bitter and Chocolate Cherry Stout. Not that the awards really matter to the people drinking his drink.

After countless of our friends (and everyone in the band) began to buy his beer by the keg-full, we were urged to use his gift to raise money for recording. The parties started off in a pretty standard way: music, drinking, carousing, etc.; they weren't that far from university keggers, really. However, over time they evolved. First by having mini concerts up in the attic, then by working in visual art free-for-alls. The classic party shenanigans are still in full swing, but now every nook of the house is being used for a different purpose. It was almost as if our seven varied personalities were let off the leash and allowed to run free in a musical beer garden; music-making and Buzanko brews are always at the heart of the gatherings, but other interests of band members have also started to be indulged. The events we've been responsible for include Bill Murray marathons, themed costume parties (Halloween be dammed!), crafts and geeks workshops, and a whole night devoted to our love of chips (or crisps). For a while we lost the use of our faithful house, but decided to keep doing secret shows in the surrounding forests…moving as the night went on to escape the heavy hand of the law…. even though I don’t think they really care. We used these nights as creative reinforcements and social stimulants. We’ve been able to fund two albums, a trip across the ocean, and countless extra-curricular endeavours. The parties' objectives may change, but the beer remains the same... well, it remains beer."
